Family Attorney: Charges Won’t Be Filed Against Officers In Korryn Gaines Case
The Baltimore-area police officers involved in a standoff that killed Korryn Gaines and wounded her 5-year-old son will not face any charges, a lawyer for the family said.

Police have been investigating the incident internally; on Tuesday, Baltimore County State’s Attorney Scott Shellenberger announced he will meet with the Gaines family Wednesday about the status of the case.
Meanwhile, Shellenberger’s office said no public comment will be made until after the meeting with Gaines’ family. During an alleged exchange of gunfire, Gaines was fatally shot and her 5-year-old child was hit in the cheek and late recovered.
Baltimore County Police Chief Jim Johnson said officers had come to the home Monday morning to serve arrest warrants on Gaines and a man who also lived there.
Gaines’ family filed a wrongful death suit against Ruby and Baltimore Country last week, contending Gaines was shot “because they ran out of patience after a seven-hour standoff”, New York Daily News reported. The officers meant to arrest Gaines on charges related to an earlier incident in March and failure to appear in court.
Gaines was shot and killed by a tactical officer who was part of a unit engaged in a seven-hour standoff with Gaines on August 1 that also resulted in an injury to her five-year-old son Kodi in their Randallstown apartment. Police tell WJZ she repeatedly threatened to shoot the officers.

Police say Gaines was armed with a shotgun. When police did not retreat, she told them to leave. Ruby shot her, officials said. Ruby was a 16-year veteran of the department and also a member of the Support Operations Division who had previously, during what WBAL-TV described as a “similar incident” in 2007, been involved with a fatal encounter.
