Song Eun-jeong from Hi Investment & Securities believes that Apple will seize the top position in the premium smartphone market on the strength of carrier promotions on the device since the recall of the Galaxy Note 7.
Time has a amusing way of making people forget and that’s exactly what Sprint Corporation’s (S) CEO Marcelo Claure thinks will happen with Samsung Electronic’s Galaxy Note 7, which suffered an embarrassing recall. “New devices will be in stores no later than tomorrow and we will continue to take the necessary actions to ensure users are powering down and immediately exchanging recalled devices”.
Samsung has launched the Galaxy Note 7 IMEI tool, which will allow customers to check online if the smartphone that they have acquired is among the ones with possible risks of a faulty battery or among the replacement units. This follows the postponement of sales of the device globally due to isolated battery cell problems. Samsung was even criticised by Consumer Reports for not following a proper method for official recall.
Verizon Wireless has announced a software update is available for the recalled Samsung Galaxy Note 7.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued the recall last week, following a voluntary recall from Samsung.
Samsung had recently announced that it will issue an update that will limit the battery of all Galaxy Note 7s sold worldwide to 60 per cent recharge cycle.
According to the statement, investigation traced these problems to charging and the company is limiting battery charging on Galaxy Note 7 devices to prevent inferno.
After a joint inspection, Samsung and Amperex said the cases of two combustion in China were caused by external heating. The notice will appear every time a user powers up or charges their device.
