Turnovers haunt Chiefs in loss
“For us to go out there and have the performance that we did it definitely helps build your confidence because that’s a very strong football team in your conference so you want to go out there and start 2-0”, Watt said.

“Way too many mistakes against a good football team to come out on the right end”, Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Monday, echoing comments he made after the game. On the final play of the first quarter Watt dropped Smith for a four yard loss recording his first sack of the season. But while Osweiler posted a nearly-identical quarterback rating to Smith’s (68.8 to 68.1), he threw for 268 yards, with numerous yardscoming on intermediate and deep routes.
The defense wasn’t great, but they kept the Chiefs in this game. A mix of both the pass rush and the coverage is the reason why Smith completed 20 of 37 passes for only 186 yards and no touchdowns. Demarcus Robinson had a big hit as a gunner while Cairo Santos made all four of his field-goal attempts.
However, there was a weakness in the defense.
Newton threw two TD passes to Kelvin Benjamin and one each to Greg Olsen and Devin Funchess as he broke Jake Delhomme’s record for most TD passes in franchise history with 122.
DeAngelo Williams churned out 94 yards on a career-high 32 carries and added a 4-yard touchdown grab. Meanwhile tight end Travis Kelce, who tortured the Texans for eight catches, 128 yards and two touchdowns in the Wild Card Game win, was held to five catches for a meager 34 yards. The game plan did its job, putting the Chiefs off balance most of the game.
The Eagles’ offensive line is much better than the patchwork Texans group that shut down the Bears. We got the first half Chiefs. However, he still isn’t the force that the Chiefs need off the edge and Osweiler had all day to throw in the first half.
Osweiler, who finished with 268 yards passing, connected with Hopkins on a 27-yard touchdown pass on the next play to make it 7-0.
The biggest reason for the big difference is that Kansas City has had no choice but to ditch its conservative play-calling and open things up. Also, a big concern for Miller coming into the season was the sudden increase in usage. They beat us twice past year. With the way Osweiler and the offense as a whole have been playing, it looks like Bill O’Brien won’t be calling less run plays anytime soon. Again, rookie Will Fuller V showed what he was capable off by taking the top of the defense to catch a 53-yard reception in the first quarter. Granted, majority were from the first quarter, but those are still great numbers from a player that a lot of people thought the Texans reached for in the draft. He and Spencer Ware could form the best running back duo in the league once he returns. Houston was impressive on offense, defense and special teams. Well, this week, it was a lot more like last season’s than last week.
