Kane faces eight weeks out; could miss Arsenal clash

The English striker had initial scans done, and showed no broken bones, but may face up to two months out if he sustained grade two ligament damage.

Spurs are now third in the Premier League table, right where they finished last season, but they have some tough sledding right ahead. “We’re not expecting any big issues”.

“It is hard without him, but we signed (Vincent) Janssen, he’s working very well and he is a striker that can give us a lot of things”.

The North-Londoners did get back on track after beating The Black Cats 1-0, with Spurs’ star forward Harry Kane scoring the only goal of the match. “He is a quiet person, a nice person”, Pochettino said.

Lloris said: “We used to say that we have a competitive team and I think we are very confident in every player”. “This is why you can’t give a time-frame [for his absence]”, Pérez said, although the early estimate is one of around eight weeks.

“We all enjoy the way we work, but last season was a very, very tough season and very long, and you need time to recover that”. It’s impossible now to know how long he will be out of the pitch but we believe he can be available as soon as possible.

There would be an impact, too, on Sam Allardyce’s England team, given Kane would miss next month’s World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovenia, and the eagerly anticipated visit of Scotland to Wembley on 11 November.

In Kane’s absence, Dutch striker Vincent Janssen, who signed from AZ Alkmaar in July, is expected to deputise.

It now remains to be seen whether or not Pochettino risks starting Janssen in the League Cup against Gillingham on Wednesday night with Kane out injured.

He added: “He needs to be calm and just play and be sure he has opportunities to score”.

Spurs have generally enjoyed a good start to the domestic season after initially drawing two of their opening three league games.

Tottenham and Pochettino have previously sought to play down expectations around Edwards, 17, who is widely regarded as the best young player in the country and signed a two-year contract in July, following interest from elsewhere and a tense standoff with the club.
