Six children killed as school bus falls in canal in Amritsar

5 children have died after their school bus fell into a canal in Muhawa town close Amritsar on Tuesday. Although many children have been taken out of the drain, many of them are still missing.

In an unfortunate news coming from Amritsar, a bus full of school children fell into a canal while on its way to Attari.

All children were between seven and 14 years old and belong to the nearby villages of Tibbi, Muhawa and Neshta.

Some of the students told the police that the driver, Satnam Singh, was driving rashly and lost control over the bus on a narrow bridge.

Van driver Charanjit Singh fled after breaking open a window.

Deputy Commissioner of Amritsar Varun Rujoom who visited the spot with senior officials said, “an enquiry has been ordered into the accident, we are verifying the details on the basis of eye witnesses, and strict action will be taken against those found guilty”.

“The bridge is very narrow and the driver was driving very fast”.

According to the students, the bus was stuck on the broken railing for around two minutes. Ten of them are said to be in a critical situation at Arora Hospital.

The Punjab government has announced a compensation of Rs 11 lakh each to the families of the deceased and also promised free treatment of the injured.
