Wentz solid again as Eagles slam Bears
An 11-play 77-yard drive which once again stalled in the redzone saw Caleb Sturgis kick Philadelphia to within one point, and then with half-time on the horizon, Wentz threw a flawless ball to the corner of the endzone only for Jordan Matthews to drop the sure touchdown, forcing Sturgis to enter once more to kick the Eagles ahead.

Matthews scored on runs of 3 yards and 1 yard, sandwiched around a 2-yard touchdown pass from Carson Wentz to Trey Burton. “It gave me confidence early on throughout the game that transferred over throughout the game”.
“I came out pretty much same routine”, Wentz said, via the Philadelphia Inquirer.
His issues mirror a bigger one for the Bears, who are 0-2 and, with Monday’s defeat, have lost 12 of their last 13 games at home.
A short time later, the Eagles mounted their only long touchdown drive, a 68-yard march that ended with Matthews, seemingly stopped on a run into the line, able to slither out, keep his balance and stumble around the pile of bodies to the end zone. He likened Wentz to a nine- or 10-year vet following Monday’s win over the Bears, pointing to his command of the huddle and the way he is communicating between series. After throwing a critical (and stupid) interception at the end of the 3rd quarter, they forced him into the locker room, and later announced he would not return. The secondary overcame the absence of injured cornerback Leodis McKelvin and shut down Jay Cutler and the Bears.
Along with Cutler, inside linebacker Danny Trevathan also sprained his thumb, and has been said to be out indefinitely. Eagles head coach Doug Pederson appears not to have Wentz on too short of a leash early on in the season and as the year wears on, I’m sure he’ll be allowed to do even more as his understanding of National Football League defenses continues to improve. Cameras caught the two having a heated exchange following the interception. Everyone has a lot invested into this, and he does as well. If Cutler is not available, Brian Hoyer figures to start at Dallas next week. “He’s upset. I’m upset”.
Cutler set up the game’s first touchdown when he spun to his left and unloaded a 49-yard heave to Jeffery that put the ball on the 5 in the opening minute of the second quarter.
When he made a decision to lead a protest, Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins knew people would be watching him. Jenkins said Saturday he would lead teammates in a demonstration against social injustice.
Of course, Jenkins was far from alone, as Ron Brooks and Steven Means were on either side of him, and Marcus Smith was standing elsewhere on the sideline.
Alex Kozora will surely have more on Wentz and the rest of the Eagles offense later on in the week so be on the lookout for that. Houston was hurt trying to rush the passer in the second quarter and walked gingerly toward the sideline after being tended to by team medical personnel.
