ACC will move neutral site league championships out of North Carolina
“The NCAA has just sent out a notice about hosting for all events to be relocated from North Carolina”. On state property, the law mandates that people use the bathroom for the gender specified on their birth certificate.

The NCAA fallout continues in North Carolina due to its transgender bathroom law, or House Bill 2.
The NBA moved their 2016-2017 All-Star game from Charlotte in July.
The decision which followed Monday’s announcement by the NCAA that it would relocate its championship events scheduled for the state, was made during a previously scheduled meeting of the ACC Council of Presidents in Clemson, S.C. ACC Commissioner John Swofford, who advocated for the bill’s repeal in a statement issued Monday, had said in July that the conference would revisit the decision to hold neutral-site championships in North Carolina – specifically, the December 3 conference football championship game at Bank of America stadium in Charlotte – in early October during meetings of the ACC’s athletic directors.
HB 2 has been roundly criticized across the country with Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski telling USA Today the law was “embarrassing”.
Besides the men’s basketball games scheduled in Greensboro for March 17 and 19, events involving Division I women’s soccer, Division I women’s golf, Division I women’s lacrosse, Division III men’s and women’s soccer, Division III men’s and women’s tennis, and Division II baseball will be moved from North Carolina to other states.
ACC Commissioner John Swofford said after the NCAA’s decision that his league would review its next steps.
“This is political theater by the NCAA and ACC”, said U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson, who represents North Carolina’a 8th District.
Some locations are out of the picture based on prior commitments (other championship games or National Football League games within the next few days), but here are the five sites the ACC Championship Game can be held this season. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina State, Duke, and Wake Forest have all released statements expressing their concerns over HB2.
Ben Graumann, spokesperson for Equality NC, said the decisions from the ACC and NCAA to relocate championship events aren’t surprising, given the two organizations’ commitment to protecting fans and players. Several high-profile entertainers, including Bruce Springsteen and Pearl Jam, have canceled shows in North Carolina.
It’s been so long ago that people forget this stadium was the site of the first three ACC Football Championship Games. In a press conference in response to the NCAA’s decision, Swofford spoke of the need to repeal the law as a “counter to basic human rights”. “I feel pretty confident that we will submit something”.
“We hope this action will lead to productive dialogue and actions that will enable neutral-site championships to return to the state in the future”, U.Va. athletic director Craig Littlepage said.
