Heat guard Josh Richardson bracing to miss next 6-8 weeks

Miami Heat guard Josh Richardson has sustained a partially torn medial collateral ligament in his right knee, league sources told The Vertical.

The good news, of course, is that Richardson won’t need surgery, which he confirmed during his appearance.

“When I hit the ground, it was like my knee was on fire”, Richardson said. “I thought I would just be learning from the older guys and just kind of watching. I’m going to work my butt off every day this summer just to get better”.

As a rookie, Richardson came on strong by averaging 6.6 points, 2.1 rebounds and 0.7 steals while shooting 45.2 percent from the field and 46.1 percent from three in just 21.3 minutes per night.

Richardson was expected to be in the running to win the team’s starting shooting guard position, which will now either be awarded to Tyler Johnson or Dion Waiters (no offense, Wayne Ellington). They know that and I expect them to sit out Richardson for the beginning of the season.

This year is going to be burdensome for the Heat because they let Dwyane Wade walk away.

Though Richardson expects to be on crutches for the next few weeks and out for most if not all of the preseason, there’s a chance he could be back in time for the start of the Heat’s regular season on October 26 at Orlando.
