When Minnie Driver and Michael Weatherly announced the star had won the award during Sunday’s ceremony, Jimmy jokingly grabbed the gong and said: “Maggie, if you want this, it will be in the lost and found”.
Louis-Dreyfus used her victory at the Jimmy Kimmel-hosted ceremony, which was witnessed several starts making sharp political jabs, to take a dig at GOP contender Donald Trump.

“Our show started out as political satire”, she said, “but now it feels like a sober documentary”. Women won awards, Jeffrey Tambor made a passionate speech about giving trans actors a shot, Leslie Jones yelled at the Ernst And Young guys for not protecting her Twitter account, and throughout the whole thing it was clear that this wasn’t just about white guys for once.
The Emmys also did not shy from honouring minority talents as Indian-origin actor-writer-director Aziz Ansari and Alan Yang received the best writing for a comedy series honour for “Master of None”. Overall it won 12 Emmys this year, out of 23 total nominations.
Tambor won his second straight Emmy for playing a transgender woman.
An emotional Louis-Dreyfus noted that her father had passed away only a few days before.
Bush asked Kimmel if he was a nominee, and when Kimmel said yes, Bush said, “Wow, what’s that like?”
Maggie Smith as Violet, Dowager Countess Of Grantham in Downton Abbey. “While I’m apologizing, I’d also like to take this opportunity to personally apologize for the current political climate”, she told the audience.
Limited Series: “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story”. The actress brought along O.J.Simpson prosecutor Marcia Clark as her plus one to the big award show since girlfriend Holland Taylor was in NYC rehearsing for her upcoming play. “I’m a … I’m a presenter”, David, 69, said while presenting the award for Best Comedy Series.
Louie Anderson was honoured as best supporting actor in a comedy series for his portrayal of a loving but tough mom in “Baskets”.
SNL’s McKinnon, who has portrayed Clinton on the show, won for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
“Please tell me you’re seeing this, too”, said Emmy victor Rami Malek, who plays a computer hacker on USA’s “Mr. Robot”.
