The father of a suspected NY and New Jersey bomber identified his son as a terrorist threat to authorities two years ago, he said Tuesday.
Rahami was arrested carrying a small notebook which law enforcement sources say is full of ramblings referring to multiple attacks on us soil, including the Fort Hood attack and the Boston Marathon bombings, and references to killing the “kuffar,” or unbelievers.
“He doing bad, he stabbed my son, he hit my wife”, the father said.
Bombing suspect Ahmad Khan Rahami left behind a “rambling” note mentioning a slain al-Qaeda leader, NBC News learned Tuesday. ‘But they check nearly two months, they say, ‘He’s O.K., he’s clean, he’s not a terrorist.’ I say O.K’. Mohammad Rahami told the Times.
The FBI followed up with Rahami but he recanted his statements, sources said.
In any case, the Federal Bureau of Investigation checked its databases and found nothing connecting Rahami to terror groups, three law enforcement officials said.
Rahami remains hospitalized. He faces five counts of attempted murder of a police officer.
Authorities have identified a suspect in the Manhattan explosion case as a 28-year-old New Jersey resident of Afghan descent who may be armed and unsafe, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said on Monday.
The comment comes after police arrested the 28-year-old Afghan-born American on Monday following a firefight that wounded two officers in New Jersey.
“I would like people to respect my family’s privacy and let us have our peace after this tragic time”, wrote Zobyedh Rahami, who’s believed to be Ahmad Rahami’s sister. They are interested in what his dad has to say.
When these types of complaints come in, they usually go into the FBI’s Guardian Threat Tracking System, which prompts a limited level of investigation and surveillance.
Two Linden police officers were also shot and hurt in the exchange, said the mayor of the suspect’s neighboring hometown Elizabeth.

In 2014, police arrested Rahami for stabbing his brother in the leg and illegal possession of a firearm. Police later found a second bomb that did not detonate a few blocks away on 27th Street.
