World’s fastest Samsung 2TB SSD rocks 2.1GB/sec writes
Kim Un-soo, senior vice president of Samsung’s memory chip business division, said the company “is once again taking the next step in multi-terabyte SSD technology and the storage revolution, providing users with higher capacities and speeds than ever before”.

Samsung has announced its new 960 Pro and 960 Evo NVMe SSDs, which offer high-end performance in small packages at capacities up to 2TB.
The other drive will be the Samsung SSD 960 PRO M.2 that will more than likely be the successor to last year’s Samsung SSD 950 PRO M.2 and be focused on the high performance consumer market.
I’m now running around at the various briefings and events here at Samsung’s Global SSD Summit, but we did get some details on the 960 PRO and EVO that I’ve set to go live at the NDA time of 1 PM Seoul time.
Both drives are built on the PCIe Gen 3.0 x4 interface and support Samsung’s dynamic thermal control system to make sure that the drives don’t overheat from an extended period of heavy activity. Performance in the EVO is the result of Samsung’s latest Intelligent Turbowrite Technology. The first drive is the Samsung SSD 960 EVO M.2 NVMe drive series that will likely be replacing the popular Samsung SSD 850 EVO series that debuted in 2014. Random operations run at 440K read IOPS and 360K write IOPS. The 960 PRO, featuring 3rd generation V-NAND, high-speed controller and firmware delivers peak sequential read speed of 3,500 MB/s and write speed of 2,100 MB/s, 30 times faster than hard disk drive (HDD) and is capable of transferring and storing a high-resolution movie in just one to two seconds. M.2 also uses less energy than 2.5in SATA SSDs, as it can draw power directly from the motherboard rather than needing its own power connector. It will be available in 250GB, 500GB and 1TB capacities.

Both SSDs contain Samsung’s own Dynamic Thermal Guard Technology to manage performance levels and overheating, and are expected to be available as of October 2016, prices starting at $329 and $129 Dollars respectively.
