Red Sox at Orioles
That’s the Orioles’ story.

The Orioles are now five games back in the AL East, so if you haven’t put those hopes away by now, do it now.
Rodriguez is 1-3 with a 4.30 ERA six all-time starts against Baltimore, 1-1 with a 4.40 ERA in three outings vs. the Orioles this year.
The Red Sox are 11-3 in their last 14 games and a major league-best 13-5 in September. The O’s also still need to further cement their position at the top of the Wild Card standings, where they are now one game up for the top Wild Card berth, and also three games ahead of the Detroit Tigers and Seattle Mariners, who are the next-closest competitors for those two desired paths to the annual play-in game.
“It’s just math. We know how many opportunities there are and there’s still an opportunity for us”. And not to teams that have the flaws that Baltimore has.
“They have another day of rest”, Farrell said of his bullpen.
Red Sox: Former Oriole Eduardo Rodriguez (2-7, 4.98) makes his fourth start this season against Baltimore on Tuesday night.
“It was a really special moment, something that I’ve definitely been waiting for my whole life”, the rookie said. “It’s especially cool for my family. I wouldn’t want it any other way”, said Boyd (6-4), who lost 8-1 to the Twins at home last week.
Rick Porcello tossed his third complete game, while David Ortiz and Mookie Betts crushed two-run homers, Mark Trumbo hit an RBI double and Adam Jones also went deep for the visitors at Camden Yards. The 24-year-old designated hitter becomes only the second Oriole in 50 years to homer in his first major league game.
Two innings after a shoving match broke out when tempers again flared between Madison Bumgarner and Yasiel Puig, the Dodgers’ comeback in the ninth began with pinch-hitter Andrew Toles’ leadoff single.
The destructive Mookie Betts didn’t homer, but had three singles and scored two runs.
Boston went up 1-0 in the third when Betts singled and scored on a grounder by Hanley Ramirez.
The Yahoo Sports’ MLB Free Game of the Day just happens to be Red Sox-Orioles, so you can watch David Ortiz try to add to his impressive home run total when the game starts at 7:05 p.m. ET. Battling with what appeared to not exactly be his best stuff, Gausman pitched into the seventh inning, scattering seven base hits over the first six and keeping the Red Sox from getting any hits once a runner got into scoring position up until that point. Instead, after Gausman struck out Bogaerts for the first out, he was left in the game to face Ortiz. “I’m not saying experience is 100 percent what you’re looking for, but it gives you a balance of good things that you’re going to decide to do”. The second at bat, I was trying to throw him a lot of splitters.
“I still can’t figure out how he can swing so hard on balls up and in and then cover a pitch down and away, but that’s why he’s the hitter he is”, Orioles catcher Matt Wieters said. He also was hit just below the left leg by a fastball from Tyler Anderson (5-6) in the third – two pitches after Randal Grichuk lined a two-run homer.
YANKEES: The team will honor first baseman Mark Teixeira in a ceremony before the regular-season finale October 2 against the Orioles. He allowed only two earned runs on four hits and one walk with seven strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings in Boston’s 5-2 win over the Orioles at Camden Yards. Koji Uehara continued his return-to-form with a clean eighth, and the Red Sox had Craig Kimbrel to finish off the win in the ninth.
With a four-game lead in the American League East, facing the pitcher who had completely shut them down in his last start, and with one of their less certain arms on the mound, this was the game the Sox could easily lose in this series against the Orioles and not really feel too bad about it. “I care about winning”. When it comes down to it, yeah it’s nice when we get a win and some of the teams that we’re chasing or are chasing us lose, or visa versa.

“Like I always say, I don’t expect anything from nobody”, Ortiz said.
