Microsoft Surface Pro 3 Critical Battery Problems Trigger Recall
Okay, so the original battery problem with the Surface Pro 3, which involved the device reporting a lower battery capacity than expected (and reportedly meant that some users could barely manage an hour of longevity away from the mains) was finally cured with a firmware update issued at the end of last month. According to Microsoft, a software error caused the full charge capacity of the battery to be misreported by the device firmware and the operating system.

Microsoft said that only “a limited number of customers” had been affected by that problem, and that it only impacted some batteries manufactured by Simplo, while those manufactured by LGC were not affected. Others say that they’ve had issues with their LGC battery since upgrading to the Windows 10 Anniversary Update on their Surface Pro 3.
The firmware fix reset the reported capacity.
Some models of Surface Pro 3 were struck with severe battery issues, reducing their time away from the power outlet to a few minutes or less. Aside of not charging fully when devices were connected to the power outlet, the laptops would shut down right after the battery level reached the 20-percent mark or even once the power cable was removed.
As InfoWorld noted, Microsoft did the same thing to owners who were affected by the Simplo battery issue, charging them hundreds of dollars for out-of-warranty replacements.
Now, however, it seems the problem has resurfaced again for another batch of Surface Pro 3 owners. “It always said “82%, Plugged in, Not Charging”, and would always instantly turn off once I pulled off the power supply tab”, the statement reads.

Microsoft is yet to comment on the issue regarding the Surface Pro 3 in the coming days. This will produce a listing of the battery’s recent usage, showing the reduced maximum capacity. However, what it is not fine is to have the battery on the laptop charging only up to around 80 percent capacity. The problem was resolved with the latest firmware update for the machines, and those particular users were breathing a little more easily.
