Valencia are set to return to Champions League after beating Monaco 3-1 at Mestalla, but unlike the result suggests, it was an intense encounter with Monaco having several decent chances and even hitting a post.

Monaco were without the influential Joao Moutinho and Layvin Kurzawa through injury and Kurzawa s replacement Elderson endured a torrid time as Valencia got off to a flying start.

“Since we arrived at the stadium we have experienced something special tonight, and from the first minute everyone was behind us”.

Feghouli headed the ball across the face of goal to an open Rodrigo, who simply tapped the ball past a helpless Danijel Subasic from four yards out, to give Els Taronges the ideal start.

Goals from Rodrigo, Dani Parejo and Sofianne Feghouli scored the objectives which give Valencia a 2-objective cushion to defend in France subsequent Tuesday, Xinhua reported.

“It was a good game, and it was fundamental for us to win today”, said Valencia head coach Nuno Espirito Santo.

Zahavi was a thorn in Basel’s side all night having put Maccabi ahead before Matias Delgado drew the hosts level from the penalty spot.

Berget made Celtic pay badly for failing to keep their concentration both times after it had a seemingly comfortable two goal advantage – a bad habit that has been a feature of its recent play and the players had been warned about correcting by Celtic manager Ronny Deila.

Lazio beat Bayer Leverkusen 1-0 at the Stadio Olimpico with a well-taken finish by substitute Keita.

Leverkusen thought they had taken the lead on 69 minutes when Hakan Calhanoglu’s shot was flicked in by Stefan Kiessling, who was ruled offside.

Shakthar Donetsk and Dinamo Zagreb have made huge steps towards the Champions League group stage recording away wins against Rapid Wien and Skenderbeu Korce. Valencia came flying out of the traps and scored in the fourth minute.

A fine header from Baurzhan Dzholchiyev on 14 minutes proved enough for the Blue and Yellows, who are aiming to make their debut in the group stages.
