And he claims the Blues offered enough cash to make him “the most expensive Spanish footballer ever”.

The Blues were heavily aligned with the now Real Madrid man for much of the off-season as Antonio Conte set about putting his Stamford Bridge plans in place, after succeeding Guus Hiddink in the dugout.

“And it was a very good offer this time”.

Alvaro Morata has revealed Chelsea made an offer for him during the summer transfer window that would have made him the “most expensive Spanish player ever”.

Morata rejoined Madrid in June after two years at Serie A champions Juventus, with Los Blancos exercising a 30-million-euro buy-back option on the 23-year-old academy graduate.

However, Morata committed himself to Real after learning from Zinedine Zidane that he had a big role to play at the club.

But Chelsea eventually bought Michy Batshuayi from Marseille for £33m after being frustrated in their pursuit of Morata and Everton striker Romelu Lukaku, while Arsenal signed Lucas Perez from Deportivo La Coruna in a £17m deal.

“Real said no, that they wanted to keep me and I’m very happy”.

Morata has started the new season with two goals from six appearances in all competitions.
