FBI says it looked into New York bombing suspect two years ago
An explosive device went off in a New Jersey train station as the NY bomb squad was attempting to disarm it with a robot.

Court documents said Rahami also showed extremist tendencies on social media, listing two jihadist nasheeds [religious songs] related to jihad under his “favorites” list on YouTube.
Rahami is also charged in federal court in New Jersey with a separate five count complaint.
The complaint against Rahami laid out four counts including the “use of weapons of mass destruction”, and “bombing a place of public use”.
Mena, who met Ahmad Khan Rahami in high school, filed papers in New Jersey Superior Court one day after the 28-year-old father of the child was captured in a gunfight with police in Linden, N.J.
The complaint sheds new light on Rahami’s alleged motives and means, and the time line of the incidents.
US Investigators yesterday continued to probe who knew about the alleged NY bomber’s terror plot – after it emerged that his wife and mum fled the country before the attacks.
In the video, the man left the duffel bag where police later found the unexploded pressure cooker.
The bomb was packed with ball bearings and steel nuts, likely to increase the lethality of the device, that traveled as far as 650 feet from the site, the complaint alleges.
Another undetonated bomb was found on 27th Street about four blocks away. Fingerprints also matched the materials found there to Rahami, the complaints said.
Another refers in glowing terms to Osama Bin Laden, Anwar al-Awlaki, a US-born Muslim cleric killed in a 2011 drone strike, and Nidal Hasan, a former army officer who killed 13 people at a Texas Army base in 2009. There are mentions of pipe bombs, a pressure cooker bomb and a partial sentence, “in the streets they plan to run a mile”.
“Inshallah (God willing) the sounds of the bombs will be heard in the streets”.
And the complaints said in his bloodied journal – damaged by shots from his gun battle with police – he fumed that the US government was slaughtering Muslim holy warriors and alluded to plans for revenge. “Death to your OPPRESSION”, the journal ended.
THE FBI were tipped off that the NY bomb suspect was a terrorist TWO YEARS AGO by his own family – as Ahmad Rahami is charged with planting bombs in NY and New Jersey.
The White House said on Tuesday it appeared that the bombings were “an act of terrorism” as an investigation continued in to whether Rahami had accomplices, or if he picked up militant Islamic views during trips to Afghanistan and Pakistan.
At the time, the son was being held on an assault charge for stabbing his brother during a domestic dispute, another law enforcement official said.
The FBI never interviewed Ahmad Rahami, according to officials.
Rahami traveled for extended periods to Afghanistan and Pakistan in the last five years, officials said.
He is married to a Pakistani woman and brought her to the USA as his wife, said the official.
“I would like people to respect my family’s privacy and let us have our peace after this tragic time”, she wrote.
On a trip to Pakistan in 2014, Rahami emailed his local congressman seeking help because his pregnant wife had an expired passport.
At that time, he told immigration officials he was visiting family and attending his uncle’s wedding and renewing his Pakistani visa. It is unclear what happened to the child.
Asked Tuesday about Rahami, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said President Barack Obama “is confident that the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation will go back and review the interactions that this individual had with law enforcement to determine if there’s something different that could have been done or should have been done to prevent the violence that we saw over the weekend”.
She is cooperating with investigators, according to the source.
More information is coming out about the American man charged in connection with a series of bombings in NY and New Jersey that injured dozens of people. Officer Padilla went home Monday night, several hours after he was shot in the torso – a wound authorities say could have been fatal were it not for a bulletproof vest he was wearing.
