The US and Turkey are North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies, and that’s why the US should extradite Gulen, who is directly involved in the military coup attempt in Turkey, the country’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, the Yenisafak newspaper reported.

Evidence against one of the soldier’s involvement in coup attempt is strong, the official said.

Turkey’s incursion into Syria came after years of no responses for world powers to help create a “safe zone” along the Syrian border, with the aim of clearing out ISIL and Kurdish fighters and of stemming a wave of migration that has caused tension with Europe.

Speaking in an exclusive interview, Erdoğan told Reuters that the future of Syria should be “determined by its own people”.

“Assad can not be part of any transitional period. the world should find a solution that does not involve Assad”.

In his speech at a leaders summit on refugees on the sidelines of UN General Assembly, Erdoğan said Turkey had successfully fulfilled its commitment to the European Union under the refugee deal inked in March.

Asselborn called for reviving EU-Turkey ties, underlining the strategic importance of Turkey for the 28-member bloc.

“Why this killer is being backed by some states?” the Turkish president asked, referring to global support being given to Assad by states such as Russia, China and Iran. Erdogan did not say how Gulen threatens the safety of other countries.

Turkey hosts the maximum number of refugees worldwide, Erdogan said, sharing Turkey’s plans about what to do for refugees in future.

“For this reason, on every occasion, I remind the worldwide community about the reality that “the world is bigger than five”,” he said, calling for the membership of the Council to be made more representative.

In addition, the Turkish leader also criticized the worldwide community for its failure to address conflicts going on in the world with specific emphasis on Syria.
