In last week’s poll (http://1045theteam.com/gozs-college-football-top-25-poll-week-3/) you may remember I noted that the victor of Florida State-Louisville would be in the #2 spot.

Defending national champion Alabama remains at No. 1, receiving 50 of the 61 first-place votes. No team made a bigger climb than Louisville, which jumped seven spots and received six first-place votes after quarterback Lamar Jackson and the Cardinals beat Florida State 63-20. Ohio State is no doubt a very good team, but just so far this season, Louisville’s wins over Charlotte, Syracuse and Florida State have been more impressive than Ohio State’s over Bowling Green, Tulsa and Oklahoma. “You did a great win, now let’s get our butts back to work”, said head coach Bobby Petrino. Ten FCS teams have received votes in the poll since 2007, when Appalachian State’s victory against MI prompted the AP to declare that voters could include teams playing in what was once called I-AA.

Ten teams from the FCS – Division I football’s second tier – have received votes in the poll since 2007, after Appalachian State’s victory against MI prompted the AP to declare that voters could include teams playing in what once was called I-AA.

“Consider this”, he continued, “Ohio State, Michigan State, Michigan, Wisconsin and Nebraska have a combined 17-10 record against Power Five teams since 2014″. Yes the Aggies needed overtime to beat UCLA but that win is still better than Georgia nearly losing to Nicholls State or Tennessee losing to Appalachian State.

No. 17 Texas A&M (3-0) beat Auburn 29-16. They moved up four spots from last week after an exciting win over a Missouri team that promises to be pretty good this year.

— No. 23 MS and No. 25 Oklahoma both managed to stay in the rankings after dropping to 1-2 on the season. The Cardinals are now 5-1, behind only consensus favorite Alabama (7-2) and Ohio State (4-1). But mark your calendars now for Oct 1 when Jackson matches up against top-five ranked Clemson, and November 17 when his Louisville team plays ranked Houston. But after converting a two-pointer after the first touchdown, the Ducks went for two each time, missing the next four and returned with a 35-32 loss.

— No. 22 San Diego State is ranked for the first time since 1995. Florida State fell from No. 3 to No. 13.

Iowa’s loss to North Dakota State cost the Hawkeyes a place in the rankings.

Listed at 6-3, 205 pounds, Jackson may stand a bit taller than Vick, but he’s not likely to supplant the likes of Notre Dame’s DeShone Kizer or Clemson’s Deshaun Watson as the top quarterback eligible for the 2017 National Football League draft.

OR essentially gave its spot to Nebraska.

That game was the beginning of the end for N.C. State, which had started 4-0. The Gators have won 11 straight meetings, but won’t have quarterback Luke Del Rio (knee).
