What the Saints Need to Do to Beat the N.Y. Giants

Benching $38 million cornerback Sean Smith midway through the third quarter and sitting him for the remainder of the afternoon clearly stood out and raised eyebrows in Oakland’s locker room as well as around the NFL. While Richard’s first touch was actually an 8-yard reception, he’s a running back, so his first rush is the one that should stand out.

It’s a move Smith agreed with, even if it came at his expense, and he said he was not surprised when it happened.

“Julio’s going to get the ball regardless of who (the opposing cornerback) is”, Smith said. It was getting bad out there. I don’t see (52) points being put up. Coach did what he had to do.

The Raiders expected Smith to bring stability to their secondary after almost a half-decade of constant changes.

Essentially, the Saints are playing the 2016 season with a salary cap of $11o million, while others teams are using the majority of the cap’s $155 million on players who are actually contributing every week.

Last time the Giants and Saints went head-to-head, Manning and Brees combined for over 850 yards passing and 13 touchdowns. Ryan played his best football in the contest after Atlanta sped up the offense to try to recover from an 18-point deficit but coach Dan Quinn doesn’t believe a no-huddle attack fits his squad.

Saints-related questions are always welcome, but the chat will be joined by special guest, Giants beat writer Dan Duggan of NJ Advance Media, to respond to Giants-related questions. They do not expect to give up almost as many as they did last season. With multiple weapons on the offensive side for Manning to utilize and pick apart this young Saints defense, giving the quarterback any extra time will be devastating. The Giants have allowed an average of 41.8 points in six games against Brees and lost five of them.

“I was thinking that we’re here to win; let’s win it right now”, Del Rio said, via ESPN. Williams showed bravado in welcoming the challenge of facing Beckham, Victor Cruz and rookie Sterling Shepard by saying, “We’re looking forward to getting challenged by those guys.”ABOUT THE GIANTS (1-0): NY received early dividends last week after investing $141 million to bolster its defensive line, notably holding prized rookie Ezekiel Elliott to just 51 yards rushing behind Dallas’ highly touted offensive line”.

Receiver Sammy Watkins was listed as not practicing because of soreness to his surgically repaired left foot.

Denver’s police chief said he talked to Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall about riding along with officers after the player’s decision to kneel during the national anthem on opening night to protest racial oppression and police brutality. “Obviously last season was frustrating because he dealt with the knee injury in training camp”. Spiller was a tough decision, but it also speaks to the high regard that the Saints have for Travaris Cadet and the remaining running backs. Yesterday, Spiller’s contract was terminated.

The Giants on the other hand had a very new look, efficient but less than explosive on offense, but playing behind a defense that found a way to shut the Cowboys down in the final minute rather than finding a way to lose as they did so often previous year.
