The British actress, 42, attended the glitzy event in Los Angeles after Sherlock: The Abominable Bride was nominated for Oustanding TV Movie, a prize which the BBC drama went on to win.

Abbington noted that the purse contained her driver’s license which, in the United States, is a key piece of identification.

Notably, winners of the 68th season of primetime “Emmy” were declared on September 18.

On Twitter yesterday Abbington told fans: “Thanks for the lovely tweets re; the Emmy’s. Cool, right?” she wrote.

Abbington is married to one of the Sherlock stars, actor Martin Freeman, who was not present at last night’s Emmy Awards.

Apparently, Martin Freeman’s love interest (both on- and off-camera) says her bag was “nicked” when the cast went onstage to collect their award.

“So pleased we won”, Abbington said on social media. Amanda also replied to a fan who suggested that her purse got “kicked away from under her chair” and that “someone handed it in to staff” at the awards show. The actress searched the auditorium after everyone had left but discovered nothing.

This sounds like a case for Sherlock Holmes.
