The Best Of Carson Wentz

The Philadelphia Eagles, with rookie QB Carson Wentz, came into Chicago and whipped the Bears 29-14 on Monday Night Football and the state of the team couldn’t be much worse. They’re probably not going to make the playoffs next season, either.

Philadelphia Eagles continued their surprising start to the season, with a 29-14 win away to the Chicago Bears on Sunday night. Zero interceptions and zero fumbles is the way you win football games in the NFL.

Included was a fourth down and 2 from the Bears’ 28.

But it’s one thing to do it against the rebuilding Browns and Bears.

The Bears are now 0-2 while the Packers and Lions are 1-1.

With that in mind, here are some takeaways from the game. Big Ben did have a superior 61.7 completion percentage but had managed only 337 yards with two touchdowns, one pick and an 88.7 rating.

“I think we’re capable of better and we’ve got to do better”. “He’s showing great maturity for a young guy from that perspective in terms of the amount of communication he’s involved with…”

Philadelphia, which has not lost a turnover in its two victories, actually got three second half takeaways but failed to capitalize on one of them.

Spelling error aside, the Bears’ woes don’t start and stop with Jay Cutler, but he is a major factor in why this team struggles. He’ll gain confidence with every pass he attempts, but won’t feel the burden that comes with slinging the pigskin over 50 times a game. That play just aggravated it.

Asked if this is as tough as it gets for a head coach, Fox responded, “Not as tough as past year”. The two had words after a pass got picked off by Philadelphia’s Nigel Bradham.

In the home locker room, though, teammates wondered how much more of this season Cutler can play. To make matters worse, Jay Cutler left last night after an injury which seemed eerily inevitable giving the way his offensive line performed. There was no where to run for the running backs.

“(Ball security) is something I pride myself on and it’s something this offense prides itself on”, Wentz said. That falls on the rest of the offense. “We’ll evaluate tomorrow. We’ve got practice tomorrow, we’re on a short week already”. Next week they face the Steelers, featuring a defense that is a far cry from the dominate days of old but still more formidable than the sieves the Eagles have faced the first two weeks of the season.

But another big one came on the strip-sack by undrafted free agent Destiny Vaeao that teammate Connor Barwin said “turned the game”. Pittsburgh is also 3-0-2 ATS in their last five games overall, and 13-4-2 ATS against a team with a winning record. Trevathan later returned to action and stayed in for the remainder of the game.

Drops have always been an issue for the 2014 second-round pick in the NFL Draft who registered five in the dubious category last season.
