Ghani calls Modi after militants attack left 18 soldiers dead in Kashmir

At least 10 militants and a soldier were killed on Tuesday as the Army claimed to have foiled two major infiltration bids from Pakistan near the line of control, two days after a massive terror strike killed 18 Army men in this garrison town of Uri in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

While bodies of militants have been spotted almost 300 meters short of the Line of the Control, a search is on in neighbouring areas to find out if there are more casualties on ultras side, official sources said.

After the Uri attack, the terrorists had again made an audacious attempt to cross the LoC along the Uri and Nowgam sectors. All the four militants were also killed.

The source said the Pakistani fire caused no damage.

As per sources, Kashif Jaan, who had escorted the Pathankot terrorists till the border, could also have been the handler of the slain terrorists in Uri.

The report further says that Pakistan would respond with full force in case of any strike by India.

Voicing concern over the “strains” in Indo-Pak ties after the Uri terror attack, China on Wednesday appealed to the two countries to exercise “restraint” and engage in more dialogue to “properly” deal with disputes while remaining committed to regional peace and stability.

The presence of the Foreign Secretary in the meeting is significant as government plans to launch a diplomatic offensive against Pakistan.

Mumbai: Acclaimed Bollywood screen writer Salim Khan has lashed out at Nawaz Sharif on Twitter, saying that when no one in Pakistan listens to their Prime Minister, would anyone in the global fora heed his complaints about India.

Sources said the Home Minister took stock of the steps taken to check infiltration along the LoC and the International Border with Pakistan. He has said that the terrorists attack at Uri will not go unpunished.

Echoing similar sentiments, BJP leader Satyapal Singh spoke on the infiltration bid and said that economic sanctions should be imposed on Islamabad.
