Chinese Paralympic delegation welcomed home after successful Rio campaign

Swimmer Amy Marren won a bronze medal in the 200m individual medley in Rio having competed in the London Games at the age of just 14, but being away from home was a completely different experience for her.
“I have just sobbed since winning, I have worked so hard and it was such a tough race to be in, so to be on the podium it was unbelievable”.
“I have never cried on a podium before that is how emotional the games have been and how much these medals have meant to me this time”. The staff were great, the food was fantastic.
She said: “The athletes’ village was surreal, the best way I can describe it as a little bubble”.
“I know that Manchester – a city with a rich sporting history – and London, with its strong links with the Olympic and Paralympic Games, will host brilliant celebrations that will give the British public a chance to say thank you to our unbelievable athlete heroes”.
Crouch said: “The achievements of Team GB and ParalympicsGB made the whole country proud so it is only right that we host fitting celebrations to mark their incredible performances in Rio”.
The Paralympic medallists’ British Airways flight arrived into London’s Heathrow Airport on Tuesday morning (20 September) after they won 147 medals – 64 of them gold – in Brazil.
Both finished second in the medals table.
Although the medals grab the headlines the success for this team runs deeper with numerous team achieving phenomenal lifetime best performance and coveted top ten finishes as they performed on the biggest of all sporting stages.
Great Britain’s Paralympic stars delivered an “amazing performance” in Rio according to Telford’s Penny Briscoe, the team’s Chef de Mission.
Paralympic GB medallists have returned to the United Kingdom on a special flight from Rio as parade dates to celebrate the athletes’ success have been confirmed.

She said: “We look forward to welcoming people from all over the country for a spectacular celebration of the achievements of our Olympic and Paralympic heroes and to share in an unforgettable day”.
