Doctor accused of abuse by gymnasts previously investigated

Nassar has been “relieved of clinical and patient duties” at the university since August 30, when campus police received an allegation by one of the women who came forward in response to IndyStar’s investigation of USA Gymnastics and its handling of sexual abuse complaints.

An MSU professor and team physician for women’s gymnastics, women’s crew and a former USA Gymnastics team physician has been accused on two separate counts of sexual abuse.

USA Gymnastics said in a statement they had notified law enforcement after it learned about the allegation against Nassar in the summer of 2015.

The Olympian is identified only as “Jane Doe” in the lawsuit, which names both Nassar and the USA Gymnastics organization as defendants.

Denhollander filed a criminal complaint against Nassar two weeks ago with Michigan State University Police, alleging he sexually assaulted her during treatment for lower back pain when she was 15.

One of the young women filed a civil lawsuit Thursday in California, while the other filed a complaint two weeks ago in MI. The other, Rachael Denhollander, said reading the investigation inspired her to speak out.

In addition to Jane Doe’s claims, gold medal victor Rachael Denhollander claims the sick doc penetrated her with gloveless fingers in addition to groping her breasts when she was just 15-years-old.

“I was ashamed. I was very embarrassed”. And I was very confused, trying to reconcile what was happening with the person he was supposed to be.

Manly said he expects other former US national team gymnasts to join the California civil suit. “How could he reach this kind of prominence and stature if this is who he is?”

Nassar, who was USA Gymnastics’ team physician during four Olympics before resigning last September, has not been charged with a crime. She sacrificed her youth and adolescence, spending thousands of hours in rigorous and often painful training to bring glory to our nation as an Olympic athlete.

This isn’t the first time USA Gymnastics has faced such allegations.

Describing the allegations as “deeply troubling to anyone concerned about the welfare of children”, the senators demanded Penny “explain how coaches or others who supervise children are vetted and evaluated over time to ensure athletes in their care are protected”.

The lawsuit further alleges USA Gymnastics actively covered up claims made against the doctor, but it does not detail specific instances.

He was a faculty member at the Michigan State University (MSU) and has treated its gymnasts. He will remain suspended during the investigation. “He has been a physician for over 23 years, and part of the USA Gymnastics medical team for 29”.
