“The state cabinet will decide tomorrow (Wednesday) on the future course of action”.
“Karnataka does not have water and it would be hard to implement the SC order”. The order came as some respite for Tamil Nadu as the Central Supervisory Committee headed by Water Resources Secretary had on Monday directed Karnataka to supply Tamil Nadu 3,000 cusecs of the Cauvery water till September 30.
Noting that order of the Court to the Union Government for constitution of Cauvery Management Boardis was detrimental to the interest of Karnataka, Mr. Gowda said, even as the Special Leave Petition filed challenging the final order of Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal is scheduled for hearing on October 18, he did not understood the need to direct the Centre for constitution of Board. Karnataka chief minister had earlier said it will be hard to enforce the apex courts order, the media reported.
Though the regional outfit Janata Dal has made a decision to attend the all-party meet, its Mandya parliamentarian Putturaja and a couple of state lawmakers have chose to resign from their constituencies in protest against the adverse verdict.
The latest to join them was Janata Dal (S) MP C S Puttaraju who had said that he would tender his resignation in protest against the Apex Court’s order.
Karnataka State Reserve Police, City Armed Reserve Police, Rapid Action Force and Quick Reaction Teams have been deployed all over the city, where prohibitory orders under section 144 of CrpC are in force, he said.
Tamilaga Vazhvurimai Katchi chief Velmurugan said his party welcomed the announcement and thanked Jayalalithaa for taking appropriate legal steps to obtain the court order.
In Mysuru, farmers tied a noose around their necks to protest against the fresh order. The committee is mediating between the two states.
“I have also convened an all-party meeting of the floor leaders of both the houses of the state legislature on Wednesday evening to discuss the apex court order and finalise a joint strategy to protest the interests of the state”, said Siddaramaiah.

Soon after the SC direction was known, security around the chief minister’s residence “Cauvery” was tightened in order to prevent the entry of protestors. In Mysuru, farmers stormed the streets and held demonstration.
