Lyon coach confirms interest in signing Adebayor

Adebayor is without a club after scoring just one goal for Crystal Palace in a six-month spell with the Premier League club last season.

“The arrival of the young prospect Jean-Philippe Mateta fits perfectly with this strategy while the Togo worldwide, who would not be eligible for the first stage of the Champions League, confirmed he wishes to play in the African Nations Cup in early 2017 which would mean an absence of a month or two”.

However, via a statement on their official website, Lyon have revealed that they are no longer interested in bringing the former Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City striker to the club.

The Daily Mail report that Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas says they are close to signing “an experienced and ambitious” attacker, and claim that Adebayor is flying to France with a view to signing a deal with the seven-time French Ligue 1 champions.

The 32-year-old told French newspaper L’Equipe: “They said that?” That’s nonsense. They came to me after we had qualified, so they knew I was going to play. I’m the captain of my country, so how could I not go?

“If they start looking for such excuses, they will kill themselves”.

“Two players were approached”.

According to Lyon, the arrival of the young forward Jean-Philippe Mateta could also help their aspirations as they await other players who have also been sidelined by injury. “As always, it is the technical staff who make the ultimate decision, we followed that decision”.
