Tony Romo Injury: Could Cowboys QB Return Sooner Than Anticipated?
The Dallas Cowboys lost their season opener to the New York Giants, 20-19.

Although the numbers weren’t staggering (73 yards for Beckham, 34 for Cruz), the prospect of star pass-catchers on either side of Manning bodes well for the Giants. “Wanted obviously to do the dance”. He wasn’t sure if he would get fined by the league, but joked that his teammates would gladly pay it. “Both quarterbacks are from the great state of MS and Mississippi has a lot to be proud of because they have produced more National Football League athletes than all the other states in the nation”. To score a touchdown, you couldn’t paint this story any better.
With veteran quarterback Tony Romo injured, the focus of the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1 was on a pair of rookies in Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott. He connected on a 56-yard field goal, and the lead was a mere 6-0.
“The guy was trying to make a play”, Prescott said of Williams.
“Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz, absent from the lineup for 700 days because of two serious leg injuries, brought with him the inspired play of a comeback seeking a happy conclusion”. He had already hit a 54-yarder earlier in the game.
NY beat Dallas in an opener for the first time in nine tries.
REINFORCEMENTS: The opener brightened the outlook for the NY defense after its overhaul in free agency.
The Giants were shredded by the Saints veteran quarterback last season in a 52-49 loss. He finished the game catching three balls for 34 yards and that includes the final play where NY played a prevent defense.
Prescott completed 25 of 45 passes for 227 yards but didn’t throw a touchdown pass and was unable to get the Cowboys in the end zone with consistency. Though, the rookie did add the first touchdown of his career (watch here). Vereen had 38 yards on six carries for the game.
Right guard John Jerry said the Saints have a different defense now than what the Giants faced last season in dropping a wild 52-49 decision.

Meanwhile, the Dallas Cowboys were hoping the team wouldn’t miss a beat with Prescott under center instead of Romo. Romo broke a bone in his back in a preseason game at Seattle. He’s expected to be back in the lineup by mid-October. Prescott’s first incompletion of the game was a drop by slot receiver Cole Beasley that probably would have been a TD, and Dez Bryant later had a first-half scoring grab overturned as a drop on replay. Of course, the sequence sparked an immediate “Dez caught it/Dez didn’t catch it” reaction on Twitter.
