“Danny can win some games”, said Tigers head coach Les Miles.

LSU star and Heisman Trophy hopeful Leonard Fournette has been given the night off against Jacksonville State, allowing him to rest his sore left ankle. Fournette missed most or all of LSU’s practices last week and was listed as questionable for Saturday’s game last week. Look for Darrel Williams to get a lot of carries at tailback as Derrius Guice may be in the doghouse for his fumble last week.

Days before the Wisconsin Badgers faced the No. 5 LSU Tigers, their leading receiver in the game suffered an injury that almost kept him out of the game. Not for the first time against a Mississippi State or Auburn. Now.

The Tigers took advantage of the opportunity and briskly negotiated the 45 yards in seven plays, with the drive finishing on Etling’s 2-run bootleg run to the end zone at the 3:00 mark of the third quarter.

No. 5 in both major FCS polls this time around, the Gamecocks got their season off to a good start with a 31-12 victory over North Alabama last week.

LSU quarterback Brandon Harris has been benched in favor of Purdue transfer Danny Etling.

If Etling can get on the same page with wideouts Travin Dural and Malachi Dupre, perhaps the Tigers can more consistently make some plays downfield and then let Fournette loose.

Miles also noted that he thought LSU’s offensive line, which struggled against Wisconsin, “played better and I think they will play better”.

OH (0-1) at Kansas (1-0), 2:30 p.m., FSN – Bobcats stubbed their toe in the home opener against woeful Texas State and now face a supposedly bad Big 12 team. If receivers get tackled short of the goal-line on runs after the catch that’s one thing, but if guys get open down the field he has to take advantage. Guice rushed 10 times for 93 yards and a score in the first half, averaging 9.3 yards per carry. Finger pointing for the loss began and ended with quarterback Brandon Harris along with offensive coordinator Cam Cameron.

Still, it’s probably best for the Tigers to play it safe. Kickoff next Saturday at Tiger Stadium is set for 6:00pm. They limited Jacksonville State to just 13 points with two interceptions and two sacks.

“It gives us a chance to prove that we can play against anyone and play in front of more folks that would we normally not play in front of with the big crowds”, Jenkins said.

“He doesn’t have a lifetime to do it, and there are other quarterbacks to go to”, the coach said in a revealing comment during his weekly news conference.

That trait will be put to the test in tomorrow’s home opener against Akron (1-0) at Camp Randall Stadium (2:30 p.m., Big Ten Network).

Wisconsin’s offense will rely heavily on Corey Clement, Dare Ogunbowale, and Taiwan Deal in Saturday’s game, though Houston will certainly gets his chances to continue to grow.
