The attempted stabbing is the latest in a recent spate of attacks against Israeli soldiers.

The assailant in the Tuesday morning attack was identified by the Palestinian Maan news agency as Issa Salim Mahmoud Tarayra, 16.
Israeli guards fearful of an attack shot and wounded a Palestinian on Wednesday after she did not stop at a crossing, officials said, the latest incident in an upsurge of violence.
On Monday evening, a number of fanatic Israeli colonists hurled firebombs at a home belonging to resident Nidal al-‘Oweiwy, in Hebron city, but the family noticed the attack fast and managed to contain the fire before it spread.
Palestinians have accused Israel of using excessive force and say that some of those killed over the past year posed no threat or had no intention of attacking anyone.
Assailant armed with a knife attempted to stab an IDF soldier near Hebron.
More than 200 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces – either during alleged attacks on Israelis or in clashes with Israeli forces – since October of a year ago.
A Palestinian was killed on Tuesday as he tried to stab an Israeli soldier outside the West Bank city of Hebron, Israel’s military said in a statement.
It comes nearly one year after a similar spate of stabbings began in October 2015.
Since October 2015, at least 218 Palestinians have died in violent incidents in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip.
Since October, 230 Palestinians, 34 Israelis, two Americans, one Jordanian, an Eritrean and a Sudanese have been killed in ongoing violence, according to an AFP count.

Many analysts say Palestinian frustration with the Israeli occupation and settlement building in the West Bank, the complete lack of progress in peace efforts and their own fractured leadership have helped feed the unrest. In some cases, Israel has opened investigations into whether excessive force was used.
