The streets in Charlotte were quiet Wednesday morning after angry protests over the shooting.

At least a dozen police officers and several demonstrators have been hurt in violent protests following the fatal shooting of a black man in North Carolina. The statement confirmed both men were Black, according to the Charlotte Observer.

Charlotte Mayor Jennifer Roberts tweeted that while they were working on the officer involved shooting that they were asking the community to remain calm.

In live video, police could be seen firing what appeared to be some sort of smoke or gas canisters at protesters, some of whom could also be seen vandalizing police vehicles. The station spoke to one truck driver who said people took cargo from her trailer.

Thankfully, by a bit later Wednesday morning, police had been able to disperse the crowd with the help of flash grenades. “Cops shot him, for nothing”. The Root reported that the slain man was disabled without identifying the disability.

The Charlotte case is the latest shooting involving an officer, and racial tensions are high nationwide following a spate of others.

Following the shooting and prior to the protest, an online post on Facebook by a woman claiming to be Scott’s daughter angrily asserted that he was unarmed when police shot him.

She claims he was Tasered, then shot four times. “I’m not sure, but he’s dead”.

Police also identified the officer who shot Scott as Brentley Vinton, who has been with the department since July 2014. He got a gun!

U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch said she is “assessing” Scott’s death. “That’s it. He didn’t have no gun”.

Detectives recovered the gun Scott was holding at the time of the shooting and were interviewing witnesses, police said.

After Scott got out of his auto with a gun and got back in as officers moved in on him, “the man got back out of the vehicle armed with a firearm and posed an imminent deadly threat to the officers who subsequently fired their weapon striking the subject”, Putney said Tuesday evening. When officers approached the auto, the person got out of the vehicle with the gun again.

A large crowd gathered Tuesday night after police said an officer shot an armed man in northeast Charlotte. Scott stepped out of the auto, and a police statement said he was “armed with a firearm”.

“Some protesters were heard yelling ‘Black lives matter, ‘ and ‘Hands up, don’t shoot!’ One person held up a sign saying ‘Stop Killing Us'”.
