EasyJet pilots back industrial action in fatigue row

Pilots at Luton-based airline EasyJet have voted to take industrial action in a dispute over fatigue.

Employees of easyJet – which operates three routes in and out of Ronaldsway – are unhappy at having to work while worn out.

However, their union, the British Airline Pilots’ Association (BALPA), has announced talks are now planned to try to resolve the row.

Brian Strutton, general secretary of the pilots’ union Balpa, said that there was still hope the issue could be resolved before any action.

“Balpa has received a last minute offer from Easyjet to resolve the dispute and we will consider this carefully”.

If the industrial action goes ahead, the strikes could take place as early as October, which could cause major disruption to flights over the busy half-term break.

A walkout by members of BALPA could cause major disruption to flights to and from United Kingdom airports, triggering chaos over the October half-term holiday for thousands of families.

If pilots do decide to strike, it would be a first for the airline, which was founded in 1995.

Pilots at easyJet have been in dispute with the airline over fatigue levels, which the union claims have risen year on year.
