Emma Watson Addresses the United Nations on Campus Assaults
Watson ended on a personal note: “I am proud to have been part of lots of fantastic things in my life, but there is nothing that I am prouder of than being part of this”.

The actress and UN Women goodwill ambassador addressed the United Nations in NY on Tuesday in support of the HeForShe IMPACT 10x10x10 University Parity Report, which features ten university leaders who’ve committed to fixing gender imbalances within their own institutions.
Emma also cheered the possibility of Hillary Clinton becoming the first female President of the United States. Edgar Ramirez questioned a “macho” world that teaches boys to suppress emotions and dominate women. “A university should be a place of refuge that takes action against all forms of violence”, Watson said.
The U.N. Goodwill Ambassador and founder of the gender equality initiative HeForShe spoke in front of the U.N. General Assembly in N.Y.C. on Tuesday, where she delivered a powerful speech on preventing sexual violence in universities.
Watson, the U.N. Women Global Goodwill Ambassador, drew whoops and cheers when she referenced the possibility of Hillary Clinton winning the USA presidential elections.
Yesterday, Watson appeared as a guest of honour at at the 71st Annual United Nations General Assembly in NY to mark UN Women releasing its first HeForShe Impact 10X10X10 University Parity Report.
Watson also celebrated the fact that Britain has a woman prime minister in Theresa May. “This is the importance of the HeForShe IMPACT 10x10x10 Initiative”, she said. But what if our experience at university shows us that women don’t belong in leadership? At the University of Oxford, just 23 percent of tenured professors and 38 percent of senior leadership are women.

The ratio of men to women represented in university faculty and senior administrative positions, the fields of study selected by young women versus young men and the number of female students at universities compared to their equal access to academic and professional career tracks. The event will be co-hosted by three IMPACT 10x10x10 Champions: His Excellency Sauli Niinistö, President of Finland; Bob Moritz, Chairman, PricewaterhouseCoopers International Limited; and Samuel L. Stanley Jr, President of Stony Brook University. Almost two-thirds of tenured professors at the New York-based school are men, and a similar number make up its senior leadership.
