Metta World Peace told the world that he can still play, and evidently, the Los Angeles Lakers agree.

The Los Angeles Lakers are coming off their worst season ever, a 17-win 2015-16 campaign that saw Kobe Bryant ride off into the sunset on a 50-point performance against the Utah Jazz on the final day of the season. The team would not confirm the agreement, but a league source familiar with the situation said World Peace will return on a one-year, non-guaranteed deal.

Metta brings the Lakers’ total number of players heading into training camp to 19, so spots on the roster are going to be hard to come by.

The judge, not surprisingly, shot down World Peace’s request to keep the woman a million yards away from him, but Shakes will have to stay 100 yards away from World Peace for the foreseeable future. The Lakers could put more value this year on investing in a younger roster than retaining a veteran player not expected to provide significant minutes.

Although World Peace has expressed an interest in coaching, he believes he can play 20 National Basketball Association seasons.

World Peace was first on the Lakers as the fifth team of his career.

This will be his 17th season in the National Basketball Association after being selected 16th overall by the Chicago Bulls in 1999.

His first stint with the Lakers was much more fruitful as they won a championship in 2010 with him playing a key defensive role for them.

Despite his averaging single digits in his previous two seasons in NY and the Lakers, World Peace has drawn praise for his conditioning.
