He regretted that brutalities against people of Indian-Occupied Kashmir have reached to the extreme, and that the Kashmiris are demanding nothing but justice and right of self-determination.
Pakistan will also participate in a meeting of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir.
He said the Kashmiris’ demand for their right to self-determination was just, which had also been acknowledged by global community. “Oppression is destined to end, and truth will prevail”, it stated.
Sharif will address the world body on September 21 and Swaraj, who will lead the Indian delegation as Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made a decision to skip this year’s meeting, will take the podium on September 26.
“He will call on the global community and the U.N.to live up to their promise (about) the right to self-determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir in accordance with the relevant U.N. Security Council resolutions”, the statement added. “We’ll continue to strive for Kashmir’s right to self-determination”.
Pakistan called for the Kashmiris to be allowed to “freely decide their future through the United Nations’ mandated plebiscite”.
He said Pakistan was rightly supporting the just and indigenous struggle of the Kashmiris for freedom from Indian occupation.
Indian officials said Swaraj will give a “befitting” reply to any charges that Sharif makes.
According to sources, AJK Prime Minister Farooq Haider said it was time to use all available resources to settle the longstanding dispute once and for all.
This will be the second year in a row that Swaraj will counter Pakistan’s charges on Kashmir at the UN General Assembly.
PM Nawaz will also participate in Leaders’ Summit on Refugees convened by US President Barak Obama on September 20.
