‘People vs OJ Simpson’, ‘Game of Thrones’ rule Emmys 2016
The 68th Primetime Emmy Awards took place in Los Angeles on Sunday and saw HBO’s global hit show Game of Thrones take home its 38th award after winning coveted statuettes for Best Writing, Best Directing and Best Drama. The show had won nine awards at the 2016 Creative Arts Emmys, putting the series total at 35, the most wins for any drama series.

Compared to the ZERO acting nominees for minorities at the last Oscars, being more diverse wasn’t exactly hard.
Ben Mendelsohn of “Bloodline” won as best supporting drama actor and also was a no-show. “It’s called the Maggie Smith rule”.
American Crime Story, a dramatisation of the 1995 murder trial of the USA football star, won nine Emmys, including the award for best limited series.
The award for best direction for a limited series, movie or drama went to Susanne Bier for “The Night Manager”.
School of Communication alumna Louis-Dreyfus won her sixth Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series award and her fifth in a row playing President Selina Meyer on HBO’s “Veep”. She was a punching bag for him all evening, culminating in him confiscating her award after her expected win (a third time) for her highly acclaimed performance in “Downton Abbey”.
Other top winners include supporting comedy actors Louie Anderson and Kate McKinnon. Including last night, she has won on four occasions.
Jill Soloway, the creator and director of the Amazon show “Transparent”, which features a transgender protagonist, won for “Outstanding Directing In A Comedy Series”.
Jimmy Kimmel who earlier said that he wasn’t excited to host Emmys this year, finished his opening monologue and asked, “Are we ready to make the Emmys great again?”
“We’re sure somebody will come along and take this from us, we just hope it doesn’t happen until we are all dead”, D.B. Weiss said.
But Viola Davis of “How to Get Away with Murder” failed to repeat her 2015 best drama actress win, the first for a woman of color.
“Thanks to Mark Burnett, we don’t have to watch reality shows anymore because we are living in one”, Kimmel said.

“You lost and now you gotta…stand out here for the rest of the night in front of everybody”, Damon said. The cable network tied FX last night, with both earning six Emmys during the telecast. On the streaming side, Netflix surprisingly struck out in many of its nominated categories.
