Objecting to Mr. Parrikar’s frequent trips to Goa, Congress spokesperson Sunil Kavthankar said that India “cannot afford a part-time Defence Minister”.

Jaishankar told Basit that Indian security forces had recovered Global Positioning System (GPS) sets from the bodies of the terrorists with coordinates that indicate the point and time of infiltration across the LoC and the subsequent route to the terror attack site, grenades with Pakistani markings, communication equipment and stores made in Pakistan, including food, medicines and clothes, the statement said. “A nation should ensure this is not repeated again and again”. “When something goes wrong while you try to correct it you should also ensure that it does not happen again”, Parrikar said at an event here. Parrikar said the government would not sleep over terror being pushed into India from across the border. We will definitely find out what went wrong and also take steps to ensure it does not go wrong again. “How I do it, is entirely for the government and Prime Minister to decide”, said Parrikar.

Three days after the terror attack in Uri sector, Pakistan High Commissioner to India Abdul Basit was summoned by Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar on Wednesday. “Not saying specifically on this incident, but if I want I can have a knee-jerk reaction”, he said. Asked about Pakistan’s threat of using tactical nukes, Parrikar said “empty vessels make more noise”.

He also emphasised that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that “those behind the Uri attack will not go unpunished”, will not remain a mere comment. Four terrorists who attacked the camp were also killed.

On Sunday, four terrorists sneaked into the 12th Brigade headquarter at Kashmir’s Uri near the Line of Control, threw grenades and opened fire, causing the most number of deaths the army has suffered in years. This led to a gun battle between the Army and the terrorists.
