Sprained Thumb Leaves Struggling Bears Without Cutler vs Cowboys

On Tuesday morning, there was a report that Cutler suffered ligament damage in the thumb against the Houston Texans in the season opener and tried to play through it against the Eagles. Based on a 16-game 2015 slate that projects to 106 catches (173 targets), 1,310 yards and 12 touchdowns, which are fairly close to the numbers Hopkins put up last season (111 receptions, 1,521 yards and 11 touchdowns). Cutler was having a horrendous game, which the Bears lost, and he was widely criticized for quitting on the team.

The ESPN telecast did not show McPhee’s exchange with Cutler, but CSN Chicago captured video of it. McPhee, with eyes wide, confronted Cutler as Cutler approached the sideline.

The Bears hired Dowell Loggains apparently in the belief that Cutler would be their quarterback for at least two or three more years and that making him happy was the key to offensive success for the foreseeable future.

“I’m concerned”, Cutler told reporters. “We started the season without a couple of corners, we’ve got some young guys that have gotten opportunity that it seems that they’re learning from, I think is some cases have excelled in, so we’ll figure it out”.

It may actually behoove the Bears to sit Cutler for a week or two, using his injury as an excuse to take him off the field, even if he feels healthy enough to play. “I dont know if he was left in any longer than anyone couldve guessed.

“I aggravated it early on”, Cutler said, before comparing it to the thumb injury he suffered in 2011, which knocked him out for the final seven games of the campaign. The Bears were 7-3 after beating the Chargers but lost their next five games and didn’t make the playoffs.

Cutler was bad and then he was hurt. The Bears have lauded his speed and athleticism but want him to sharpen his instincts. And he has plenty of company.

Defensive backs Adrian Amos and Bryce Callahan left Monday’s game with concussions; there was no immediate word on their status Tuesday.

“I like our roster, I like our choices and well do everything we can to get everybody ready for Dallas, ” Fox said.

The McPhee-Cutler confrontation is just as about sad and laughable as Cutler-Webb, and here’s why: A guy being paid a pile of money who can’t stay healthy is screaming at a guy being paid a pile of money who can’t protect the ball. I came in and everyone was telling me, Jay’s an a-hole, you’re going to hate Cutler. You’re going to have not confrontations, but conversations. “I would have had to be completely knocked out to come out of that football game”.
