Game of Thrones and The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story dominated the awards scene, grabbing the highest number of Emmy awards this year. “One of them is my daughter, Alice, waiting at home”.

Jeffrey Tambor won for lead actor in a comedy for his role on “Transparent”.

“If Donald Trump gets elected and he builds that wall, the first person we are throwing over it is Mark Burnett”, quipped Kimmel, addressing Burnett, the British producer who created “Celebrity Apprentice”. In her speech, she thanked “Ellen DeGeneres and Hillary Clinton”. I don’t see her. “Our show started out as a political satire but it now feels more like a sobering documentary”. It started with the host riding in the back of the O.J. Simpson Bronco, then hitching a ride with the Dunphys of “Modern Family”, then unfortunately ending up in CBS “Late, Late Show” host James Corden’s vehicle, where some Wham! karaoke is compulsory. “I wonder if he’s having a viewing party with the guys”. Sterling K. Brown, who won a supporting actor award, said later it felt like he had floated out of his body and looked down at everyone in the crowd when his name was announced. He thanked his wife Michelle McNamara, who died suddenly last April. She goes to the Soul Train Awards every year.

While presenting the Outstanding Reality category, she said that a career in reality TV could lead “to the White House”.

But the main goal of the Emmys is to hand out awards, and the big winners of the night were “Veep” for Outstanding Comedy Series, “The People v. O.J. Simpson: An American Crime Story” (2016) for Outstanding Limited Series and “Game of Thrones” for Outstanding Drama Series.

HBO also won outstanding drama for “Game of Thrones”. He told reporters later that he had been excited about seeing a seating chart where he was going to sit two rows behind Beyonce. “So, this is nice, but this evening genuinely has a sense of loss”.

On Sunday, the HBO series won Outstanding Drama Series at the 2016 Emmys! And when Paulson won for outstanding actress in a limited series, she used part of her acceptance to acknowledge an overdue shift in perception.

But despite her many nominations and victories, the great lady has never actually attended an Emmy ceremony.
