‘Game of Thrones’ wins leading 12 Emmys

Maybe the TV Academy should start pondering a move back to a Monday like what the Emmy Awards did in 2014 when it was on NBC. On Sunday’s show, the series picked up Outstanding Drama, plus Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for Miguel Sapochnik, and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series for David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

In recent years, Smith rarely attends awards shows outside of the United Kingdom, even though she has been nominated for (and won) multiple Emmys, Golden Globes and Oscars.

Donald Trump was a featured player at the Emmys, with host Jimmy Kimmel pointing out the man in the audience who made the tycoon a TV star.

In her speech, she thanked “Ellen DeGeneres and Hillary Clinton”. “I’d also like to take this opportunity to personally apologise for the current political climate”.

Malek, of USA’s thriller “Mr. Robot”, and Maslany of “Orphan Black” won the top acting trophies for drama series.

“This season is unbelievable and I think fans are going to be really satisfied”. It was her third win for playing the role of a dowager and like always she didn’t attend the ceremony. “So I certainly do promise to rebuild that wall and make Mexico pay for it”.

Its 12 awards at this year’s bash in Los Angeles included another nine in technical categories.

It was a big night for Kate McKinnon, who won her first Emmy for her work on Saturday Night Live, which seemed to come completely as a shock to the comedian.

Sherlock: The Abominable Bride received the television movie award, with writer Steven Moffat referring on stage to The Great British Bake Off’s move from the BBC to Channel Four.
