Formula E to race in Brooklyn
The inaugural NY ePrix, set to run on the July 29-30 weekend in 2017, will take place in Red Hook, Brooklyn, against the backdrop of Lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty.

Formula E has unveiled the track layout and date for the New York ePrix double-header, which will be the first FIA-sanctioned open-wheel race to take place within the five boroughs of New York City.
The circuit, pictured below, remains subject to FIA track homologation.
With that in mind, pulling off a race in New York City would be a coup for the young racing series.
“To race in New York City is a historic moment, not only for Formula E, but for motorsport in general”, Agag said.
Formula E is just two seasons old, but its brand of futuristic (and perhaps more importantly, quiet and emissions-free) racing has drawn strong interest from cities around the world in the early going.
Jaguar Land Rover has a team racing in Formula E’s upcoming season, the first time the British automaker has had a motorsport team since it left Formula One more than a decade ago.
NYC mayor Bill de Blasio shared in Agag’s enthusiasm for bringing a high-tech, forward-looking series to Brooklyn. “We are thrilled to be the new home of the ePrix”.
Fred Dixon, NYC & Company’s president and CEO, added: “We are so pleased to welcome Formula E’s inaugural New York City ePrix to Brooklyn in 2017”.

The third season of the series, with 14 races in 12 cities, starts next month in Hong Kong. Jaguar announced its entry into the 2016/2017 Formula E Championship earlier this month, debuting the I-Type 1 race auto as well as the creation of Panasonic Jaguar Racing. In both Miami and London, Formula E clashed with environmentalists who argued that the series was disrupting local neighborhoods. The cars can reach a max speed of 150 miles per hour, but the city assured that the race, which takes place off the streets, won’t disrupt the community.
