According to The New York Times, which first reported the Federal Bureau of Investigation contact, Mohammad Rahami told local police he suspected his son might be involved in terrorism.

USA authorities investigated on Wednesday whether anyone helped an Afghan-born American citizen charged with carrying out bombings in ny and New Jersey, while the city’s top federal public defender asked for access to the suspect.

Rahami will face allegations he planted a series of bombs in both states, including one which injured 31 people when it blew up on a bustling Manhattan street.

A police source added: “Who in this world finds a pressure cooker with a phone and just takes the bag?” He has been charged with five counts of attempted murder during the gunfight with police, with federal charges pending.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who was convicted a year ago for his role in the Boston attacks and sentenced to death, also first faced charges in his hospital bed while he was still recovering from injuries sustained in a gunfight with police.

Ahmad Khan Rahami remained hospitalized Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016, after a shootout the day before with police in New Jersey.

The bomb on W. 27th St. was shock sensitive device, so “these two men are very lucky”, NYPD Chief of Counterterrorism James Waters said.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether Rahami had a lawyer who could comment on the charges.

“He doing bad, he stabbed my son, he hit my wife”, Rahami’s father Mohammad told reporters when asked why he called authorities in 2014 to tell them his son was a danger and reportedly calling him a terrorist.

“I think it’s a good sign that he was found in a doorway”.

The bombing suspect had also visited Pakistan while he was in the region.

Ahmad Khan Rahami was arrested in connection with the bombings in NYC and New Jersey earlier this week. Rahami was not prosecuted in the stabbing; a grand jury declined to indict him. “We don’t even know if they are aware of it”. “They say, ‘He’s not a terrorist.’ I said, ‘OK.’ Now they say he is a terrorist”, he continued.

Meanwhile, Rahami’s wife, Asia Bibi Rahami, who left the country shortly before the bombings, has been cooperating with authorities in the United Arab Emirates and is expected to return to the U.S.in the coming days, the official said, adding US investigators will seek to question the wife when she returns. They then remove a pressure cooker from the luggage, leave the pressure cooker on the sidewalk and walk away with the luggage.

An eBay account linked to Rahami bought chemicals, circuit boards and ball bearings that matched the explosives and remnants collected at the crime scenes, the documents said.
