Giphy Launches iOS GIF Maker

Users can send it via text, social media or even save it to their phone. Go GIF your heart out!

The free Giphy Cam app uses your iPhone’s front-facing or rear camera to record 5-second clips that are automatically looped. “The next natural step was focusing on creation”. Users can add a number of filters and cool effects to their gif, including a superpixelated filter, and a “make it rain” effect reminiscent of gifs found on the Drake-themed search engine that launched earlier this year. They’d be included in keyboard apps and certainly had been used by mobile users before in web browsers, but with the Giphy Cam, the Giphy crew grow up. Apparently this was a deliberate move on Giphy’s behalf. There’s no social network, no feed, no browsing. You could also try Giphy for Messenger, working with Facebook messenger to share gifs of all sorts – that app is available for Android, too. That’s probably extra true if you – like me – are typically bad at making GIFs by yourself. “It’s a creation tool”.

In addition to the basics, Giphy Cam gives users a range of options when it comes to sprucing up their homemade gifs which can be up to five seconds in length.
