Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson said he’s planning to go into surgery Thursday to fix his meniscus, according to an ESPN reporter.
The Minnesota Vikings (2-0) defeated the Green Bay Packers (1-1) in the opening game at U.S Bank Stadium Sunday night, 17-14. But Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said the timetable for Peterson’s return won’t be clear until after the procedure.
According to Anderson, Peterson has a “bucket handle” tear, which usually requires three to four months of recovery and possibly six.
Peterson, 31, led the National Football League in rushing a season ago. He has just 50 yards on 31 carries in two games. “I know everybody is all concerned about we don’t have this, we don’t have that”.
“We’re not the type of team that’s going to sit back and cry about what’s happened”, he said.
Peterson is expected to miss multiple games with the Vikings.
Zimmer said the Vikings must have a next-man-up mentality to overcome the losses of Peterson and Kalil.
“At this point and time I think it’s hard to find left tackles that are on the street”, Zimmer said.
Zimmer has experience playing without Peterson from his first Vikings season of 2014. “Hopefully we can play good defense and hopefully we can run the ball”.

Zimmer said it’s too early to say whether Hillman eventually could be the starter. Vikings fans might remember Hillman from his 72-yard rushing touchdown in Week 4 versus Minnesota last season. “We’re not going to change and go to like five (receivers) every play”.
