The REAL Glamour puss PURSE was created by Christchurch taxidermist Claire Hobbs according to its label, which added no animal was killed for the goal of making the bag.

The weird and possibly morbid item – including the intact cat’s head – is up for sale on New Zealand auction site TradeMe – for a whopping $1,400 starting price.

Reaction to the bag has been mixed, with some calling it “disgusting”. One user wrote ‘Absolutely awesome!

According the advert, the purse is part of Christchurch taxidermist Claire Hobbs’ one-off “Glamourpuss” summer collection, and is made from the salvaged remains of a stray cat.

You can’t let this cat out of the bag – it is the bag! For the girl that has everything a one off purse that will grab attention where ever you go. And now, she has now made a decision to sell it. Hobbs also has stuffed cat-birds and chicken-cats, nightmarish hybrids you’d expect at gift shop on the Island of Doctor Moreau.

The auction closed at 8.30pm tonight, with the unique item selling for $545.00.

She said she does not take commissions and most of the cats used in her artwork were feral and shot on a farm owned by her friend.

“I really love your work. Not keen on ginger cats, but grey ones are lovely”, a contributor added.

“Is it a a purrrrse or a handbag?” another asked. BTW, bidding for the cat bag was set to begin at $1,025.

“There are some really weird people out there, and I don’t know what leather couches they’ve been sitting on”.

“I’ve put things on TradeMe before but things like this have never happened”, she told the BBC.
