“The Daughter of the American Revolution had always tried to educated the public and tried to remind people that it is such an important day and yet it’s not really celebrated”, Devolld said. The observance runs annually from September 17 to 23.

Celebration of Constitution Week was begun by the DAR by petitioning Congress in 1955 and signed into law in 1956 by President Dwight Eisenhower. The objective of the observance week is to promote study and education about the constitution which was originally adopted by the American Congress of the Confederation on September 17, 1787. Devolld said she really wants the community to not only be aware of the Constitution but actually understand it as well. The resolution was later adopted by the U.S Congress and signed into public law on August 2, 1956 by President Dwight Eisenhower. This annual observance provides opportunities for educational initiatives and community outreach, two mission areas of crucial importance to the National Society’s work. “No American history education can be complete without a thorough understanding of the impact the Constitution has had on the lives of American citizens past and present”.
