Sgt. Sylvia Young of the Philadelphia Police Department was ambushed in her squad vehicle, police said. Young and the three civilians hit by gunfire were also in stable condition and “good spirits”, the commissioner said. This is completely a weird situation’.
The shooter in that incident allegedly told police after he ambushed Officer Jesse Hartnett that he had pledged allegiance to ISIS, police said. Glenn was shot and killed by police.
This story has been corrected to show the note was addressed to “Doomed People”, not “Doomed”.
KGO-TV also tweeted an update on the shooting, and said “a note was found from the suspect stating his hatred of police officers”.
“This was a horrific night”, Ross said. “He was well-known to the police”.
Five of Glenn’s victims – including Philadelphia Police Sgt. Sylvia Young, who was shot six times, and University of Pennsylvania Officer Eddie Miller, who was shot twice – survived. The other two people were in stable condition, a police spokesperson told The Washington Post. Sample comments from Facebook about Glenn can be read below, like one that speaks of BLM rhetoric, even though police have not released the contents of the letter. He shot a black female officer in her patrol auto 15 times, ran across the street to a bar, shot the bouncer and shot a woman in the leg and used her as a human shield from pursuing officers.
The bystanders in the auto, a man and a woman, were both hospitalized before the woman in her 20s was pronounced dead, The Inquirer reported.
Fox29 reported that one of the injured officers was a female Philadelphia Police sergeant, while the other was a University of Pennsylvania Police officer.
A 25-year-old woman in the auto was struck seven times in the torso, police said, and died of her injuries.
Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross said it all started around 11:20 p.m. when a man targeting police officers walked up to Sergeant Sylvia Young’s police auto located at 52nd and Sansom streets and opened fire on the officer. Miller was shot in the pelvis and right ankle.
“If an individual can harm a law-enforcement officer they can harm just about anybody, and that’s what he did”, the commissioner said.
Police respond after a shooting spree in West Philadelphia late September 16.
A suspect shot two law enforcement officers in Philadelphia late Friday before being killed, according to multiple reports.
“He carried out one of the most violent acts that we’ve seen in Philadelphia in a long time”, Ross added. Police spokeswoman Jeanne MacKenzie said she believes the officers’ dash cameras might have captured video of the shooting.
“My thoughts and prayers go out to the @PhillyPolice & @Penn police officers – in Philadelphia”.

“It is absolutely miraculous that she is alive”, Ross said. “This is a country where we have to do better with gun violence”.
