Notorious BIG Murder Detective Russell Poole Dead
The detective assigned to The Notorious B.I.G. murder after Poole, Detective Greg Kading, published his own investigation, Murder Rap, which disagreed greatly with Poole’s theories surrounding both high-profile murders-namely, the men who pulled the trigger, and in the case of Shakur-orchestrated the attack.

The Los Angeles police detective who said that rapper Biggie Smalls might have been killed with police help has died suddenly himself, according to NBC News.
That incident took place shortly after Biggie Smalls, a.k.a. The Notorious B.I.G., a.k.a Christopher Wallace, was ambushed and fatally shot while he drove from an event at the Peterson Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.
Poole was discussing a cold case murder investigation with Los Angeles County Homicide Bureau sheriff’s deputies when he collapsed. He stood for truth and justice and vowed to pursue the killers of Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls always wanting to follow only the truth wherever it leads. His claims conflicted with Poole’s theory.
Poole has written a book about his findings in 2003 called Labyrinth: A Detective Investigates the Murders of Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G., the Implication of Death Row Records’ Suge Knight, and the Origins of the Los Angeles Police Scandal.
“RIP to Russell Poole“. Poole named one of the officers that he thought was involved as David Mack, who that same year was sent to prison for robbing a bank.
Times archives show Poole quit the police force in 1999 after a series of disputes over the direction of multiple investigations, including Wallace’s murder.

Knight was never implicated in Wallace’s killing. Poole went on to start up his own detective services.
