Former country child star Billy Gilman seeks second chance on ‘The Voice’
It takes guts to perform a song in front of the original artist, but an Omaha native did just that and has made it through the blind auditions round on season 11 of NBC’s ‘The Voice’.

As of Sep. 20, Levine has recruited four singers: Riley Elmore, Andrew DeMuro, Billy Gilman and Brendan Fletcher.
Gilman’s tender but powerful cover of “When We Were Young” prompted Levine to motion audience members to get on their feet while Gilman wiped his eyes.
Although Shelton and Gilman hail from the country genre, Shelton didn’t immediately recognize Gilman but remembered as soon as the now 28-year-old introduced himself. Thanks to his hit single “One Voice”, he achieved a lot of success before Blake Shelton.
Gilman would eventually join Adam Levine’s team, but not before being recognised by country vets Blake Shelton and Miley Cyrus. The latter seemed hesitant to go with Shelton, since his main musical influences were reggae and blues and not country music. Blake said this new sound is “where he belongs musically”. After which, the “If I’m Honest” singer really rubbed Tucker’s decision in Levine’s face. Alicia complimented her beauty and said she’s “so perfectly herself”.
Watch Diaz’ full rendition of If I Ain’t Got You below. “To finally be here at a moment where I can finally sing the way I so badly wanted to, even then, and to finally stand here and be amongst you, it truthfully is such an honor”, Gilman said.
