Belichick coy, Texans energized entering Thursday matchup

The Patriots worked out two quarterbacks earlier in the week, including former Texans QB T.J. Yates (sneaky, sneaky), but declined to sign either.

The New England Patriots are in a bit of a quarterback crisis ahead of Thursday night’s clash against the Houston Texans.

Osweiler said he’s enjoyed seeing Garoppolo’s success because he understands how hard it is to be a backup quarterback in the NFL.

“I think organizationally, in our organization I don’t think we would put together a team the way Indianapolis did it when they lost Manning and they go 0-16, 1-15 or whatever it was”, Belichick said soon after the pick was made. It’s a tough injury, especially your throwing shoulder …

The former second-round pick appeared to be in enormous pain, especially when New England’s medical staff manipulated the injured area. “Whether I was the backup or I was playing previous year, I wanted to show up and get better every single day. There was a coach that told me ‘If you’re not getting better, you’re getting replaced'”.

Despite starting the season 2-0 to lead the American Football Conference Eastern Division, the New England Patriots are still going through some problems as they miss their key players. I don’t do surgeries. “We’ve got to do a good job of covering those guys and play good football”.

And while the focus this week has been on the quarterback position – for good reason – Belichick is clear to point out that his entire team is in the same situation, not just the quarterbacks, as New England works through a short week trying to stay undefeated on the season. Peppered with questions about Garoppolo, Belichick began to lose patience with one reporter. “It’s a good thing for the team and for the defense”. That’s what we’ve always done around here. It will never change. “That’s what it’s all driven by”.

“I think the first thing is you do have to say they’re going to be two completely different football games”, Osweiler said. “Communication is important. I think it’ll steadily improve if we keep that attitude”.

Trend: The Texans are 1-5 ATS in their last six games against the Patriots.

Now, Brissett could establish a footnote for a franchise born in a city with a complicated racial past, its first African-American player to start at quarterback. He explained that he wanted to get a feel for the pads, which he hasn’t worn for some time, but that he later had to remove them. Gronkowski was a limited practice participant all week. LB Dont’a Hightower (knee), who sat out last week’s win, was also inching closer to getting back on the field with his return to practice this week. While those two certainly aren’t elite quarterbacks, they were comfortable and well-versed in the Patriots offense.
