Europe has been the dominant issue at Lib Dem conference, with leader Tim Farron making it one of the party’s three key issues, along with replacing Labour as a “decent opposition” and improving the NHS.

In a direct appeal to Labour backers left disaffected by Corbyn’s leadership, Farron said: “To people who support Labour who look at the last election result and say, can I really take the risk of backing the Liberal Democrats?”.
In a bid to win over Labour voters, Mr Farron will say the embattled leader has let down his pro-European supporters.
Mr Farron said: “Make no mistake, the Conservative party has lost the right to call itself the party of business”.
“Particularly the Labour party choosing to go down a populist, I would say utterly unelectable route, the Conservative government feels utterly unaccountable because of a poor opposition”. ‘And when he said that, pretty much the whole room chipped in and agreed with him.
“We talk about schools – how many schools are going to have careers officers say to people, ‘have you thought about prostitution?'”
Yesterday at their conference, the Lib Dems became the first major party adopt a policy of having a second referendum on European Union membership.
Indeed, he said he’d consider a dedicated NHS tax. No vision. No clue.
Mr Clegg predicted internal divisions within the Cabinet would force Theresa May into a “Panic Brexit” that would open up opportunities for the Lib Dems to work with others.
“I don’t think that taking away the Green candidate and expecting that they will follow orders and jump into line behind us, I think it’s slightly presumptuous, I think it’s slightly insulting and I don’t think it’s liberal”.
The Lib Dems are prepared to raise taxes to fund an NHS “that meets the needs of everyone”, Tim Farron is to tell his party’s annual conference. We need to think about fairness between generations.
In his speech Farron repeated his calls for another referendum on “the as-yet-unknown Brexit deal”. Absolute genius. almost three months since the referendum and we have a government with new departments, new titles, a new prime minister…but no plan.
‘It is about time the Government stopped fuelling the housing crisis and started tackling it, by building more homes, restoring housing benefit for young people and clamping down on rogue landlords’.
Earlier on Tuesday at a Liberal Democrat Christian Forum breakfast, the party’s president Baroness Brinton said Jesus’ forgiveness was needed in politics, especially in light of the levels of abuse within the Labour party.
“If we trusted the people to vote for our departure then we must trust the people to vote for our destination”.

“I respect him for believing that the point of being in politics is to get stuff done, and you can only get stuff done if you win”.
